Work done by: Womack & Sons (Contractor) and David Dumas, P.E. (Design Engineer), Dumas & Associates.

Details: The Wood Street bridge has been closed to the public since April 2015 due to deteriorating conditions.   
In late 2014 the Capital Infrastructure Commission allocated funds for a bridge replacement and repair program. Following an advertisement for public bids the Council awarded a contract to Womack & Sons from Harrisonburg, LA, in July, 2015, for the replacement of four bridges. Work started in September, 2015. The cost to replace all four bridges is $1,358,626.  

The four bridges in this project are:

  • Elms St. at Airport Canal – replaced and back in service on May 31, 2016;
  • Wood St. over Crocodile Creek – replaced and back in service on October 11, 2016;
  • Deborah Drive at Hoggs Bayou – work in progress; and,
  • Adams St. over East Prong of Young’s Bayou – work in progress.
