Monroe Water System: Spring Flushing May

Friday, May 3, 2019 - 5:00pm

May 3 – June 30

The City of Monroe Water System will begin its spring water main flushing program on Friday,
May 3rd. The purpose of water main flushing is to remove settled iron particles from within our
underground water mains, to continue to provide high quality water to customers. The flushing
program will be running until approximately June 30, 2019. The City of Monroe Water System
will put up signs in your neighborhood when flushing will be done.

Utility customers may experience low water pressure or discolored water during water main
flushing. Water users are advised to not be alarmed if your water looks rusty during or
immediately after hydrant flushing. This discolored water is caused by naturally occurring
minerals being stirred up within the water mains. If this happens, please run cold water in sinks
or showers until the water runs clear. Only after the water returns to normal should laundry and
other water projects be resumed. In some circumstances, it may be necessary to run the water
for as long as 5 to 10 minutes.

The inconvenience which may result from water main flushing should not last for more than a
day. If problems persist, customers should call our Water Distribution Division at (318) 329-
2385.
