Monroe Fire Department Presents 2018 Fire Prevention Week

Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo and the Monroe City Council are proud to join Monroe Fire Chief
Terry Williams to announce the following:

The Monroe Fire Department is pleased to announce our annual Fire Prevention Week will be
October 7-13, 2018. This year’s theme is “Look. Listen. Learn. Be aware. Fire Can Happen

Mayor Jamie Mayo says, “We ecnourage all residents to learn about fire safety. The more that
you know, can help you save a life and protect your property.”

Fire Chief Terry Williams says, “We have a host of events scheduled throughout the week; and,
we look forward to widespread community participation. Additionally, we are proud to partner
with Firehouse Subs to furthur promote fire safety and awareness in the community.”

During the week, Monroe Fire Personnel will visit nearly 20 schools and senior centers. They
will talk about practicing fire safety with teachers, students, faculty, and residents. Contact MFD

The Monroe Fire Department is asking the public to participate in the City-Wide Fire Drill at
9:00 am Wednesday, October 10, 2018. Every school, church, and place of business is
encouraged to practice your fire evacuation drill. If you do not have one, this is the perfect time
to create a plan and practice it.

The Monroe Fire Department will host it’s 11th Annual 5K Run/Walk at Forsythe Park on Saturday, October 13, 2018. There is no cost to participate. Participants can pre-register by going to or register on-site beginning at 6:30 am on Saturday, October 13. The event will begin at 8:00 am.
