MONROE, La. July 17, 2017 —Bayou Classic and the Monroe Regional Airport partner to host an exhilarating and exciting 44th Bayou Class Kickoff Reception at the Monroe Regional Airport, Thursday, July 27, 2017 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm. Attendees can expect a good-natured yet spirited expression of the age old rivalry between Southern University and Grambling State University filled with a live band, delicious food, exposition of fine artwork throughout the airport, and an “After Glo” Party at Flight 318 Bar that is certain to entertain!
The event will provide attendees with the opportunity to kick off the 44th Annual Bayou Classic while intermingling with influencers and revelers from the surrounding areas of Northern Louisiana.
Birthed out of a historical rivalry between Southern University and Grambling State University, the Bayou Classic celebrates the strength of both schools as they compete in a series of events which include Greek shows, an infamous Battle of the Bands, and the culminating football game between Southern University and Grambling State University.
"The Bayou Classic is a Louisiana tradition! Families, neighbors, friends, alumni, and fraternity and sorority members travel from across the globe to attend the annual Thanksgiving weekend event. The people of Monroe are excited and ready to see Grambling and Southern in the football game, battle of the bands and participate in all of the other great events and activities!" stated Mayor of the city of Monroe, Jamie Mayo when asked to sum up the essence of the Bayou Classic season.
The Kickoff Event in Monroe will serve as a precursor heralding the coming of one of the most celebrated seasons in Louisiana.
