Employment - Police Officer Requirements

We accept applications throughout the year and positions are filled on an as needed basis. Before you can apply for this position, you must pass a Civil Service Examination. To inquire about the dates of the examination you may call the State Examiner's Office in Baton Rouge at: (225)-925-4567.

Must successfully pass a medical examination assuring good health and physical abilities sufficient in the opinion of the board, to indicate satisfactory performance of required work of this class before appointment to the employment list.

Requirements to take the Civil Service Examination:

  1. Age: Must be 21 - 44 yrs. old
  2. Education: High school Graduate or possess a valid equivalent certificate issued by the State Department of Education


  3. License: A valid Louisiana driver's license
  4. Vision: 20/20 or better, corrected to 20/20 with normal color vision and depth perception
  5. Good moral character

Once you have taken and passed the exam the following is a list of the required documents that you will need. We must have these documents in order to complete your application with this Department.

  1. Copy of test scores (Only if you are taking test other than in Monroe)
  2. Civil Service Application and a Medical Release form that is signed by a Doctor
  3. Background Form
  4. Birth Certificate
  5. Voter's Registration Card
  6. Social Security Card
  7. Driver's License Card
  8. Self addressed and stamped envelope (Only if you are taking the Civil Service Exam in Monroe)
  9. High School Diploma

To be considered for hire by this Department, along with the above, you must successfully complete the following:

  1. Score 75 or above on the Civil Service Exam
  2. Pass the thorough background investigation
  3. Be present for a review board held by a panel of supervisors
  4. Pass a Physical Stress Evaluation (P.S.E.)
  5. Pass a medical examination
  6. Pass a psychological exam
  7. Pass a Physical Fitness test
