Here are misdemeanor categories and ranges of punishment:

Class A Misdemeanor: Punishment range is confinement in jail for a term not to exceed one year and a fine not to exceed $4000, or both confinement and fine. If probation is granted in a misdemeanor case, the term may be up to two years.

Under certain circumstances, this may be extended up to an additional three years. Some examples of Class A Misdemeanor offenses include: DWI-2nd offense, Burglary of a Vehicle, Criminal Trespass, Cruelty to Animals, and Resisting Arrest.

Class B Misdemeanor: Punishment range for a Class B misdemeanor is confinement in jail for a term not to exceed 180 days, a fine not to exceed $2000, or both fine and confinement. Probation term, if granted, may be up to two years and may be extended an additional three years under certain circumstances. A few examples of Class B Misdemeanor offenses are: DWI-1st offense, Disorderly Conduct, Criminal Trespass, Failure to Identify, and Indecent Exposure.

Class C Misdemeanor: primarily traffic offenses not punishable by jail time, usually handled by justices of the peace, or municipal courts, who impose fines.

NOTE THAT OFFENSE CLASSIFICATIONS AND PUNISHMENT RANGES ARE USUALLY INCREASED FOR REPEAT OR SUBSEQUENT OFFENSES.
