From the Fire Chief

The new millennium brings with it new challenges, opportunities and expectations. The experiences of the past years have heightened our awareness to the fact that emergency services must be ready to respond to even more complex challenges such as chemical exposures, trench rescues, confined space incidents and acute medical emergencies. To do this Monroe's Emergency Services must be competent, properly equipped and ready for the ever-changing demands which are certain to come.

The mayor and council have continued to support us, which not only allows the continuance of readiness but also prepares us to build to meet the future. A quality fire service organization has many components, well-trained people, capable leadership and advanced equipment, all of which require sustained investment over many years. It is imperative that we pursue a consistent path well beyond the tenure of any single administration. This strategy will allow us to meet today’s requirements and invest in the future. The transformation of equipment, organizational philosophy, operational concepts although well underway will not be fully evident until future administrations. The departments mission and vision is based on the values and the beliefs that we can do it better, faster and cheaper than anyone else, yet still provide quality of life initiatives for the men and women in uniform who are called upon 24 hours a day risking their lives to carry out these tasks.

With lessons learned and your continued support we will be able to provide quality emergency services to all those who visit our city. I am proud of the opportunity to serve you and can assure you that the Monroe Fire Department is better than I found it and consistently striving to become all it can be.
