In 2008, Monroe Transit, the nation's oldest publicly owned transportation system, added a trolley car to its fleet in commemoration of over 100 years of transit service.

The Downtown Trolley Line features a diverse range of unique transit services from a traditional commuter route to a Saturday leisure route to area attractions, shopping and dining to the Lunch Express, which provides rides to the area's most popular restaurants in and around Downtown Monroe.

Downtown Trolley Line: Route 2
Monday through Friday 6:45am until 6:00pm

Monroe Transit created the Downtown Trolley Line Commuter Route to provide reliable, safe transportation for weekday commuters traveling to and from Downtown Monroe, the Garden District and North Monroe, Monday through Friday, 6:45am until 6:00pm.

NOTE: From 11:15am - 2:15pm, a regular Monroe Transit bus will run in place of the Downtown Trolley car. The Downtown Trolley car is used during these hours to service the Lunch Express. Who says there's no such thing as a free ride? Monroe Transit launched the redesigned Lunch Express in late 2009 with a new 25-minute round-trip route and even more convenient stops to better serve employees and businesses in and around Downtown Monroe. Get ready to say "Hello Trolley" on board the Lunch Express and catch a free ride to some of the area's most popular lunchtime hotspots. Lunch Express riders also receive special discounts and incentives from participating Lunch Express restaurants:
